The unseen hand
That immutable spark of life
Timeless
Incomprehensible
Day after day
Season after season
Blossoms bloom
Petals droop
Leaves wither
Fruits shrivel
The end of the line
But for that immutable spark of life
Behind the scenes without ceasing
Season by season
Timeless
Incomprehensible

There’s a pink rosebush on my front doorstep and I don’t actually do anything to it, but year after year, it produces these beautiful pink blooms. Each year after the requisite and pre-programmed number of weeks, the blooms and leaves wither and fall off and the rosebush looks dead. This lasts for a season. But unfailingly, each spring, I’d open my front door one day to find that those gorgeous flowers were in bloom once again. Through no external input from me whatsoever.

The above poem was inspired by that pink rosebush. By the timeless, unseen power of God that is always at work (Dan 2:21). Everytime I look at that rosebush I’m reminded of God’s faithfulness and the scripture verse that says, “If we are faithless, He remains faithful [true to His word and His righteous character], for He cannot deny Himself” (2 Tim 2:13 AMP)

God has programmed the biology of that plant to follow a schedule, the seeds dies, grows into a plant that produces buds which bloom and flower. Then those flowers die and wither and the cycle repeats. Season after season. Without ceasing. Because God has said so (Gen 8:22, Eccl 3:1) and because He watches over His word to perform it (Jer 1:12).

This incomprehensible nature of God comforts me, even when things are tough and I’m walking through valleys. He is faithful (even when I’m faithless) and He is watching over His promises to me to make sure they come to pass. I hope you also take comfort in these scriptures, knowing that He’s got you. No matter what.
