The bible tells us that once you’ve accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, our old ways of life have passed away and we have become new.
2 Cor 5:17 (NKJV)
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new”
With the confession of our faith we become accepted into God’s family. Not just acceptance but sanctification; in fact, the bible refers to us as saints.
In most of his letters, Apostle Paul referred to the recipients as saints. Regardless of whether he was writing to admonish, encourage or applaud them. It didn’t matter. Being a saint doesn’t mean we are perfect or sinless, it’s simply who we become through the power of God at work in us.
If you’re like me, your mind might struggle to conprehend this, especially since you know your faults and frailties. We cannot live up to our new “status” through our good deeds or good intentions nor can we simply carry on sinning but if we allow the Holy Spirit to do His work, He transforms and renews us daily, strengthening us on our walk.
God changes our status even before our habits follow because He is the only One who can call things who are not as though they were (Romans 4:17). When He speaks, it as good as done regardless of how possible or impossible it may seem at that moment.
He called Abram as Abraham “father of nations” even whilst his wife was old and barren.
Gen 17:5
“No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many nations”
God not only calls things into being but He rules in the affairs of men (Daniel 4:17) and by so doing, He subverts our rules.
We see this in action in 1 Kings 2:15
‘He said, “You know that the kingdom was mine, and that all Israel set their faces on me, that I should reign. However the kingdom is turned around, and has become my brother’s; for it was his from the LORD’
Like me, you may also have taken it for granted that Solomon was favoured and chosen by God to be King, forgetting that He wasn’t the oldest son and therefore, not the rightful heir according to man. However, “…it was his from the Lord”.
Today, be encouraged: regardless of what you see or don’t see; how you feel or don’t feel, remember that your identity is rooted in God and it’s unchanging. You have become His and because of that, He’s working on your behalf. He is faithful to do whatever He has said, just hold on.
Thank you for leaving a comment on my blog, backontheflooragain.blogspot.com I hope your daughter loves piano and finds a place to serve there.
I am humbled to know I become His and commit myself everyday.
Wemi, thank you for the reminder that my identity is rooted in God, that I have become His and because of that, He’s working on my behalf. I appreciate the encouragement. Blessings.
Wemi, thank you for this important truth that our identity is found in Christ. It’s become far too easy to look elsewhere and end up going nowhere.
Bless you.
Wemi, what a beautiful post. There’s such reassurance in knowing God enables us to become all He’s envisioned we would be. This right here: “God changes our status even before our habits follow because He is the only One who can call things who are not as though they were.” spoke to me! I’ll be pondering this one tonight.
I’m so thankful that my identity is secure in Christ, not based on what I do but His perfect righteousness. Thank you for writing on this!
